Personal Post: Another Coffee With Agnes
I’m grateful for the continued time with her.
Every once in a while I like to share a personal story here. This is one of those. I will be back to fundraising next week.
Agnes is 16, has dementia, has a heart murmur, and is a dog.
She’s a huge part of our family and has been since we adopted her seven years ago from the Pasadena Humane Society.
This morning, we woke up to her starting to throw up. We both got up and lifted her off the bed (of course, she sleeps on the bed, along with our other two dogs, Ludwig and Nadia). She threw up a bit and began having a seizure, then passed out.
At that moment, we both thought we were losing her.
I held her while Mike gave her soft strokes.
She kept breathing and, after a time that seemed like forever, began licking her lips and moving her head. It took a while, but she began to walk. We went outside and she began sniffing around. She came back in on her own, and I put her up on the couch as I made breakfast for the dogs.
She stood on the edge of the couch facing the kitchen, her normal spot to await her breakfast. To me, this meant she was good from the seizure.
She ate all of her breakfast, enthusiastically!

Everything feels OK now. I am working and Agnes is right next to me sleeping. As it should be.
We know she doesn’t have a long time left with us. We will keep loving on her, adoring her, and keeping her comfortable.
For now, all is well.
