First Blog Post as a Community Investment Officer

My title is a broader type of major gifts officer.

After six years of working with Survivor Justice Center as a part-time Major Gifts Officer and as Altrui’s biggest client, as announced last week, I am now full-time with them, with a new title and all.

I loved every minute of Altrui Consulting and am forever grateful to everyone who helped me be successful with it, from clients to friends and colleagues to my husband.

And I am ecstatic to be able to work with Survivor Justice Center full-time. Our mission of serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking, most of whom are immigrant women, is deep in my heart. We provide free legal aid to survivors, from all attorney services to support with court documents and assistance in and out of the courtroom. Their staff is amazing, and I have absolutely loved working with them these past six years.

I’m not totally sure how this weekly fundraising tip will look as I settle in, but you’ll be the first to know!

For now, it will remain a weekly tip, typically based on an experience I have had with fundraising, whether it’s a new experience or one I have been having for years.

This week it’s back to nonprofit leadership, and how those of us in fundraising can be leaders in our nonprofits who strengthen not only our team and what we have to accomplish, but also the entire organization. Great leadership, regardless of the person’s title or responsibilities, has a wonderful effect throughout the nonprofit.

We need more of this.

Embrace whatever leadership role you may play. See how your leadership can strengthen not only your fundraising efforts, but your nonprofit as a whole.

It makes a difference.

Take a risk. Be of service. Support your friends and colleagues. Be kind.
