Fundraising Tip: A New Fundraising Campaign Means a New Donate Page

If you’re making a new or special ask of your donors, create a new fundraising page.

I received an email from a nonprofit I support asking to donate to a special fund created for an emergency.

I don’t only donate to them, I am in a relationship with them. Their mission lives in my heart.

It’s an ask for something different. Something my donation would support directly, with the funds not going to regular mission work or overhead.

In my head, I think “Great. Of course.”, and click the link. The link goes to the regular donation page. I’ve seen this before. It’s where I donate when I make an online donation. It doesn’t mention the emergency or anything about this particular donation supporting something other than mission and overhead.

I’m confused.

Well, not really. I often experience this.

I know not every fundraising team can create a new fundraising page. You may have to go to one person to design it and then the web person to add it to the site. There may be even more steps, or the financial capacity to add a new page for this campaign may not exist.

If there is no way to add a new page, then move forward. Can you at least add the same photo you used in the email to the fundraising page? Anything that lets the donor know there is a connection to the email they received would be helpful.

Plan for the next time. Speak with your web person about how you can offer a new donation experience for a donor when asking for a special or urgent need.

This makes a difference. It makes a difference for your new campaign, for your mission, and for the relationship you build with your donor.

Take a risk. Be of service. Support your friends and colleagues. Be kind.
