Fundraising Tip – Take Time to Relax Thanksgiving Week
If you can, take a few days off and just chill.
NOTE: This post is going out early, ahead of the typical Monday send. I am taking my own advice and taking next week off. This post is all to support your fundraising efforts by reminding you to take care of you!
The world of nonprofit fundraising, and everything going on for yearend giving, slows down during the week of the U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving.
Fundraising definitely slows down this week, probably to a trickle.
Why?
Because many people, like some of your donors, are relaxing this week. They’re with family, or just taking it easy for the week at home.
If you are a nonprofit fundraiser for a service organization, for example, your organization serves food to unhoused youth, it may be difficult to take a lot of time off as many at your organization have to work, holiday, or no holiday.
That doesn’t mean you can’t take a little extra time off. A little time to spend with your family, read a book, cook, nap, you get the idea.
I often write about mental health and self-care for fundraising professionals. It’s completely necessary for us as nonprofit fundraisers to practice self-care, especially this time of year.
Take a minute right now to figure out how you can take a little more time off, even if it’s just leaving early or coming in late a couple of days.
Then you can come back ready to rock it for Giving Tuesday (and Colorado Gives Day for my Colorado readers!) and everything you will have to do throughout December.
